Their drooling days are over, and your little one has grown into a rampant toddler, experiencing the joys of eating sand and making friends at pre-school. At this stage of their lives, toddlers need to be constantly occupied, to avoid them getting into mischief and to stimulate their already expanding little minds.
If your toddler attends a playgroup or pre-school, it is very likely they are happily spending their days painting with marbles, making things out of ice-cream sticks, and playing with more advanced toys. Improve upon what they are learning at school with puzzles, games and musical instruments, as it is at this stage that toddlers begin to consolidate their hand-eye co-ordination.
From the ages of 2-4 years, toddlers are also in the process of learning to speak, even if you can’t understand half of what they are saying. Audio visual games and activities are therefore important at this stage, as well as bedtime stories. These will help toddlers expand upon their vocabulary, and encourage them to develop their imagination.
Outdoor activity and toys that develop large motor skills are also beneficial to toddlers. As they start to watch television, little ones might also like to dress up as their favourite cartoon or story character.
