Children in this age bracket are beginning to utter their first profound statements, and have almost grown past screaming and throwing full on tantrum, and are now in need of toys and games for children to hold their attention.
However, some kids may have already had their first day at in school uniform, with countless photographs and teary-eyed moms waving goodbye. Bridging the gap between toddlerhood and early schooldays, kids are now anxious for experiences beyond jungle gym's and sandpits and eager to learn to read and write.
In order to encourage reading and writing at this stage of childhood development, puzzles, books and educational toys are valuable learning tools. These include activity books, audio visual stories and number games, which will help develop concrete reading, spelling, listening and arithmetic skills.
Movies, music and other media have also no doubt become an obsession for little people between the ages of 5 and 7. Little girls are obsessed with Disney's Hannah Montana and High School Musical, as well as My Little Pony and Barbie. Little guys have also probably started to play their first competitive sports, so equipment is definitely popular age group, as well as video games and figurines.
